Our company timeline

In 1959 Thomas O. Miller & Company, Inc was founded when Thomas Miller acquired SM Bull Wholesale Grocers in Newburgh N.Y. and started delivering coffee to local restaurants, delis and offices. Through hard work and perserverance his dream of a coffee delivery service materialized.

1960's

In 1960 the company name was changed to Thomas O. Miller & Company. Along with the name change came a new logo to better represent the business. In 1963 Thomas' son Bruce joined the company. The company continued to thrive and when space became an issue, in 1964 they moved to a new location on Washington Street. As the company continued to grow both in business and staff they again outgrew their space. In 1967 the company was moved to a larger building on Carter Avenue.

In 1971 Thomas O. Miller & Company again found themselves exceeding their space and moved to Mill Street - the building they would call "home" for the next 19 years. In 1974 Thomas O. Miller & Company joined the All Kitchens buying group. As a member of All Kitchens they expanded their product line to include food and provisions.

1980's

In 1982 Thomas O. Miller & Company, Inc. acquired Moses & Schaffer Produce Co., adding another product line to their offerings. In 1983, Thomas & Bruce welcomed the third generation when Jeff Miller joined the company. In 1984 Thomas O. Miller and Company, Inc. celebrated their 25th Anniversary! Thomas O. Miller & Company, Inc. joined the Pocahontas buying group in 1988. Closing out the decade, they purchased Baccu Produce & Ice in 1989 and began construction on a new building.

In 1990 the company moved into their brand new warehouse and offices in Marlboro, NY. Mountain View Foods was acquired in 1995. Michelle Miller joined the company in 1996 to be the second third generation Miller involved in the company. Also the logo was redesigned to include the Starburst around the original coffee cup.

Sadly, in 1997 the founder of the company, Thomas O. Miller, passed away. Although no longer present, his spirit continues to be felt thoughout the company and his commitment to personal service, quality products and attention to detail remains a priority.

In 1998 the Riverview Farms line of fresh produce, pickles, cheese, soup bases, gravy mixes & spices was unveiled. In the late 1990's the tag line "We Care - Experience the difference" was added to the company logo.

In 2000 J.B. Marshall Coffee was launched. This premium coffee program included specialty blends, roasts and flavored coffees as well as branded in-store displays, airpots, posters, club cards and merchandising materials. J.B. Marshall has become one of the leading coffee brands throughout the Hudson Valley. Pocahontas named Thomas O. Miller & Company & Co., Inc. "Distributor of the Year" in 2001. In 2004 the company was named the Progressive Group Alliance Outstanding Distributor for Region 4. In 2004 they also acquired Country Coffee, adding another branded coffee line to the product line. The Country Coffee program was launched with a new logo, store displays with branded airpots and merchandizing items.

2009 marked Thomas O. Miller & Company's 50th Anniversary! Also in 2009, Thomas O. Miller & Company joined the UniPro buying group. In 2011 Bruce and his wife Shirley, who also worked at Thomas O. Miller & Company, decided to retire. Bruce passed the torch as President of the company to Jeff.

2019 marked the 60th annivery of Thomas O. Miller & Company. A year long celebration was planned, starting with a commerative logo and a Diamond Sellabration. Sadly the celebration was dampened by the passing of Shirley Miller. Her quiet strength and quick wit will be deeply missed.
